Many people remain in relationships because it’s convenient or stay in a marriage because of children. However that’s not enough. How to save a relationship begins with a commitment by both partners that the relationship is worth saving.

Next, you must work out the relationship problem or problems. One of the greatest problems in how to save a relationship is that the couple think that the problem’s symptoms are actually the problem itself.

For example, a lot of people believe an affair is a causal problem of a break up. In reality, an affair is evidence of a more far reaching problem. (For instance), a relationship lacking in true intimacy can result in a straying spouse. While many people see an affair as the problem, the actual underlying cause of it was the relationship’s lack of intimacy. If you don’t deal with this issue, you might stop another affair beginning through using guilt, but then another problem (i.e. pornography) could arise because you have not taking care of the underlying problem.

Once you begin to handle the real underlying issues rather than the symptoms, you can save the relationship.

Once you’ve determined the real problems, you can start sharing your thoughts. This means both expressing your feelings listening to your partner’s troubles. If lack of communication is the problem, make the commitment to yourself to spend at least 20 minutes before bed just talking. And, then carry it out.
